Reflections on emergencies home and away

What motivates this article are personal reflections and questions that arose after several months of critical exposure into humanitarian emergency response operations. The context of these operations depict a said ‘refugee crisis’ and an ’emergency’ unfolding in my native country and in the Horn of Africa. I am interested in exploring some of the thought processes, moments of clarity and puzzlement that I underwent and the types of responses deemed appropriate by policy makers and humanitarian actors in order to deal with corresponding emergencies.
